Lampropeltis leonis (Nuevo Leon Kingsnake)
Vicinity of Galeana, Nuevo Leon
Although much of the area immediately surrounding Galeana (elev. 5987 ft/1824 m) has been affected by human activities, the surrounding hills are very lightly populated. Cerro Potosí, the largest peak in the Sierra Madre Oriental and rising to an elevation of 12,181 ft/3713 m, forms a dramatic backdrop to the Galeana countryside. Habitats for Lampropeltis leonis range from near-desert conditions on very light soils to oak-pine associations on dark red clay soils. (July 2005).
