Lampropeltis mexicana (San Luis Potosí Kingsnake)

The quaint little town of Armadillo de los Infantes lies northeast of Cd. San Luis Potosí at an elevation of 5356 ft/1632 m elev. This region is a transition zone from the desert-like habitat occupied by L. mexicana to the west and the wet montane habitat near Alvarez to the southeast. Mexican Black-tailed Rattlesnakes (Crotalus molossus nigrescens) and Mexican Pine Snakes (Pituophis deppei) are commonly encountered snakes of this area. (July 2005).
